INSOMNIA

Everyone knows the importance of sleep and rest. However, there are countless people suffering from insomnia every day all over the world. Insomnia is recurrent difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or sleeping poorly, despite having ample time and opportunity to sleep,

Insomnia can be divided into two types according to the duration:
  • Short-term insomnia (also known as acute insomnia):

Lasts for days or weeks, but symptoms do not exceed 3 months, and there is usually identifiable stress         and cause.

  • Chronic insomnia:

Occurs at least 3 times per week, and symptoms persist for more than 3 months, usually with complex           and difficult-to-identify causes.

Difficulty falling asleep:

Difficulty falling asleep, taking a long time to fall asleep

There are 4 types of insomnia, which one are you?

Early awakening:

sleep cycle is shorter than average, wakes up earlier and often has difficulty staying asleep

Not getting enough sleep:

Feeling very tired during the day even when you get enough sleep at night

Difficulty staying asleep: Difficulty sleeping deeply or easily interrupted sleep

INSOMNIA SYMPTOMS

Insomnia is characterized by difficulty falling asleep, but there are other symptoms that can also be caused by lack of sleep.

Common signs and symptoms are as follows:

  1. Difficulty sleeping at night

  2. Waking up in the middle of the night, or waking up too early

  3. Feeling unrested after waking up

  4. Tired and sleepy during the day

  5. Restlessness, depression, or anxiety

  6. Difficulty concentrating, inability to focus on work, and poor memory

  7. Headache or nervousness

  8. Gastrointestinal discomfort

  9. Worry about sleeping

CAUSES OF INSOMNIA

  • Sleeping environment: The temperature, brightness, and bed comfort of the sleeping environment will all affect the quality of sleep.

  • Stress: All academic pressure, life pressure, family pressure, etc. will affect the thoughts and self-discipline nerves, making it difficult to fall asleep.

  • Anxiety: Anxiety and tension can lead to insomnia, and most insomniacs suffer from anxiety disorders.

  • Poor sleep habits: such as playing around before bedtime, sleeping in an uncomfortable environment, or using the bed for activities other than sleep or sex.

  • Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol: Drinking these coffee, tea and alcohol in the evening or at night will affect the quality of sleep and make it difficult to sleep deeply. Nicotine can also have adverse effects on sleep.

  • Eating too much in the evening: After eating too much, you may also develop heartburn (Heartburn), gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), etc. This can make you feel sick when you lie down and make it difficult to fall asleep.

  • Specific medical conditions: Symptoms of chronic pain such as Fibromyalgia and Arthritis, or difficulty breathing, gastroesophageal reflux, heartburn, and frequent urination.

Purpose of Primary Research

The purpose of this research is to observe my target audience (focused on college students) on their understanding of insomnia, collect what they think is the cause of their insomnia, how they feel, and the solutions they have implemented.

The first part is mainly demographics and whether they experienced insomnia.

The second part is to collect the feelings of insomniacs, what they think is the cause of their insomnia.

In the third part, people with insomnia share the actions they have taken to relieve insomnia, and whether their methods are effective.
