T&T 2 - WEEK 1 : References Of Data Visualisation

1. Our work shouldn't be here by Volume INC

Volume’s work subtitled our work shouldn’t be here, captures the experiential essence of Volume’s wide-ranging career, revealing our philosophy, process and personality. It also addresses how to exhibit designs intended to be touched, read and used, rather than being reduced entirely to a collection of rare artefacts frozen behind glass.

In the main gallery is the “Wailing (Poster) Wall,” a collection of inner thoughts, annual milestones, cheeky haikus, and outside reviews of Volume’s work, both positive and not-so-positive.

2. What makes us feel? by ARCH Hawaii

Help us discover what shapes the way you feel. How you are influenced by different factors of school climate? What parts of school promote certain feelings? How its work? Choose one or more coloured threads from the eight emotion categories and connect with those feelings. Through this visual representation, you can share your feelings, influences, thoughts and reactions, which lets others know how you feel about different aspects of school. From a white and clean board turn to a colourful and messy threads board.

3. An Installation Made from 8,080 Colored Pencils by Caroline Williamson

To celebrate the centennial of the University of Minnesota's School of Architecture, Variable Projects has designed an installation called the Centennial Chromagraph, which recreates life-size moments from the school's 100-year history. The curved installation consists of 100 robotically routed plywood ribs joined together with 8,080 coloured #2 pencils. The curves in the composition reflect key periods in the school's history, such as leadership tenure, buildings occupied, and colleges it belongs to. The colours of the pencils show the evolution of the school's degree programs over the years.

4. Before I Die by Candy Chang

After losing a close friend to liver failure, Chang took time to reflect on her life and how she wanted to spend the rest of it. After thinking about death, she felt that this must be a common thing that many people think about—and she was right. ¨Before I Die is a participatory public art project that invites people to contemplate death, reflect on life and share their personal aspirations in public. She covered the crumbling house with chalkboard paint and scrawled the reminder: "Before I die, I want to _____." Responses quickly filled the walls.

5. Body Positivity Seekers by Yean Hong

This is the one that impressed me the most among my last senior works. What this installation conveys is that girls now easily feel anxious about their appearance and body. What the work wants to express is to let girls learn to love themselves more, and don't care too much about people's eyes. She interacts with people through seals and a series of peripheral methods. You can use her carved stamps to print patterns on the posters she prepares. Every piece is connected and I think this is a great example.
